The Renaissance Walnut Creek Hotel receives mixed reviews, with some guests praising the staff, location, and access to the Bay Club. However, recurring concerns involve dated rooms, cleanliness issues, inconsistent service, and billing errors. Recent reviews highlight problems with bed bugs, stained mattresses, and malfunctioning amenities.
This was my first time staying at a Mariott property and I was impressed (I have membership with other hotels). The very nice person who checked me in also happened to be the GM (Holice). I also met other wonderful staff, Kamilah, an engineer (maybe Evan?), and the very nice lady in the gift store. All were wonderful. Having access to the Bay Club was a definite cherry on top. I loved the decor, cleanliness, and feel of my room. I appreciated the bedding, light color pallette, tall ceilings and bay windows - it made my room feel very spacious. Thank you to all and I will come again.
The evening front desk clerk Robert was friendly and apologized for the stains and debris on both mattresses in the first room and promptly moved me rooms. Told me to call down about the second room. Second room one mattress still stained in areas that would indicate previous bed bugs. Second mattress was good and I checked thoroughly and no bed bugs noted on either. I did still try and call down to the front desk to inform of one bed still being stained but after 3x and busy signal gave up since it was really late and just used the unstained bed. I did message through the Bonvoy app about the issue. Checked out really early and the AM front desk staff were busier engaging each other in conversation and didn’t even bother to ask how my stay was. I was limited on time and so didn’t end up asking for a manager. Honestly good customer service would have documented the room change and noticed my original complaint via the app on my reservation. It’s a real shame as this is a nice area and the access to the Bay Gym is a real plus and the positive part of my stay. The rooms are just outdated and carpet is old, hallway had an odd odor to it and I highly recommend they just follow suit with the other Marriotts and get quality zipped bed bugs covers for their mattresses. The feather pillow tops do nothing and leave little black feathers and specks all over the mattress. I travel a ton for business and have Platinum status- for Marriott this really was a subpar experience for the area and price point.
False advertising with a classic bait and switch. The ONLY reason we booked this hotel is because of the description of the bathtub; "Deep soaking bathtub". We received a standard combo tub/shower. When I brought the issue up all they could do was offer me a room at 2.5x the price while pointing fingers at everyone else. The manager was extremely rude and offered zero solution or apology and then started arguing at me about the definition of a deep soaking tub. Do a Google search buddy! Review update: it gets worse. When we finally went to use the bath it wouldn't hold water. They sent us to another room and that bathtub had vomit in it! They sent us to a third room and that tub would also not hold water. Then they finally send a maintenance person up, but I asked for them to wait until I am back up the stairs because my naked girlfriend is up there chilling alone. And they don't respect that they just go on in! Wild experience
Me and my wife stayed here, and probably never again. Room was small. Walls were thin. Bed was lumpy. Pillows were flat. Bathroom towel was stained. The remote for the TV was broken. They charge for parking with no valet. Honestly I want my money back. Lady at the desk that helped us was kind, but the "lady" next to her wasn't. Thank for an uncomfortable long night
Very friendly and professional staff. The rooms are very clean and comfortable . They have a good restaurant with delicious cocktails and food. The hotel is in close proximity to restaurants.
My stay here was excellent. The staff was extremely helpful. The room was nice and clean. I enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant both mornings and the food was very good. I also really enjoyed having access to The Bay Club. I will definitely stay here again next time I come to Walnut Creek.
Multiple surprise Over billings after checkout. Accounting was rude when asked how did you charge me parking when I traveled to hotel on Bart. Her best answer I guess was to hang up. Mold in bath, walls are beaten up. Dinner service was slow, not good, and cold.
Bed was infested with bed bugs. Reported it to the staff and was met with indifference and a rude attitude. No proper help, no accountability. Cleanliness is extremely concerning. Absolutely would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Worst beds of my life. I have not been so sore in my entire life sleeping at a hotel. These people need to stop being cheap and put some money into making their hotel worth more than staying at a shitty motel 6
The rooms are so old and sad. They need a reno BAD. The only reason I stay here is for the gym. Service is nice and staff is friendly, but I honestly hate these rooms and decor
